Being Hypocritical VI

President Obama waited two days before addressing the American people in detail after the thwarted Christmas Day bombing.

Here is Rudy Guiliani's hypocrisy on CNN:

GIULIANI: I think the president has to make a major correction in the way he is dealing with terrorism because I think he has mishandled the situation. First of all, it was 10 days too late. This is something you react to immediately, not 10 days later after your vacation.The president of the United States, when there is a potential massive attack on this country, which is what this guy was going to do, should have been on top of this immediately, not 10 days later, 11 days later, 12 days later.

For your information, during the foiled shoe bomber incident President Bush was on vacation and he did not make a statement until six days later.

Here is Karl Rove, Senior Adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff for President George W. Bush, on Fox New. He follows suit:

ROVE: Look, they woke him up immediately to tell him he won the Nobel Prize but couldn’t bother to interrupt his vacation for three hours to tell him a terrorist tried to bring down a plane on Christmas Day. And the President waits 72 hours before we hear from him, and it’s over 72 hours from the time of the incident to the time that the President spoke today, and then the President said some things that are simply not true.

Here is Dana Perino, White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush, on Fox News, denying that 911 happened on the former president's watch:

PERINO: We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush’s term.

I have sincerely tried to give these people the benefit of the doubt. But it is so difficult to continue to do so. Are they so foul and corrupt that they actually believe what they're saying? Or, do they simply not care about honesty as long as political points are gained?

Being a Super Majority

Unless you're the Republican Party with steamrollers like Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, in fact--they didn't even need a super majority to get legislation passed, the concept of super majority--being filibuster proof--itself means nothing. What is political capital if not used to pass legislation that the people voted you in for? The public option has 65% of support in the country and 70% among doctors. One cannot help but to wonder how lame and self-centered are leaders in the Democratic Party--really? Jon Stewart breaks it down for us.

Being a Political Strategist

Sometimes we do not make the best choices for when the rubber meets the road or when we feel the pressure of doing certain things in order to win. You know the saying, "everything is fair in love and war." It seems as if the same can be said of politics. Karl Rove, considered the chief strategist of dirty politics in our time, will probably be forever linked to such campaigns. But he showed a softer side in relations to Donna Brazile that is worth noticing.

Many of the electorate despise Mr. Rove and his operatives for the dirty political campagins they have run. One thought of the Swift Boat and the Harold Ford Jr. ads sends many into a bit of a rage. I must admit to not having the friendliest or fondest feelings toward him either after the 2000 and 2004 elections. Yet, we see another side of him in Donna Brazile's book, Cooking with Grease, that has caused me to think about the importance of not passing judgment and retaining bitterness.

"How do you go back to being a normal, functioning human being after something like the 2000 election?" writes Donna Brazile. "I thought I'd died politically. No one wanted Gore people around. I thought, 'Why have I given my entire life to this?' and was bitter, bitter, bitter. When I was being kicked to the curb, you know who it was who called me? It was Karl Rove. He'd say, 'Donna, you doing O.K.?'"

Who would have thought? But I wonder if he has asked for forgiveness of those whom he has smeared through his political campaigns. By the way, I do not think that everything is fair in love and war--politics either. We have to answer for our actions and there are consequences too. There is also grace.
