I'm currently listening to Michelle Obama address childhood obesity at the National Governors Association. Childhood obesity is so very important as it affects every area of our future national viability.
This cause, as the First Lady said, is not right or left and neither should addressing the problem include a one size fits all solution. What works in one state will not work in another.
The problem is intricate and intimate.
This is such an important issue. I trust that it will find broad support across the nation in every community. Let's Move!
Being is the essence out of which all things evolve. This blog is an ongoing conversation of being in various facets and areas of life, including the personal and the professional from which relationships of all kinds are formed and teams built in all communities, virtual or real, at home, at work, in politics and at play.

Being First Families IV
"President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama on Saturday doled out presidential M&Ms and dried fruit mixes to more than 2,000 trick-or-treaters, marking their Halloween at a White House event partly aimed at honoring military families," reports the AP.

It's great to have kids in the White House again. What fun!

Being Inspired by Others
President Obama and First Lady Michelle celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary Saturday night at The Blue Duck Tavern near Georgetown. They were married October 3, 1992.

Evening Song
Full moon rising on the waters of my heart,
Lakes and moon and fires,
Cloine tires,
Holding her lips apart.
Promises of slumber leaving shore to charm the moon,
Miracle made vesper-keeps,
Cloine sleeps,
And I'll be sleeping soon.
Cloine, curled like the sleepy waters where the moonwaves start,
Radiant, resplendently she gleams,
Cloine dreams,
Lips pressed against my heart.
--Jean Toomer

Happy 17th anniversary Mr. President and First Lady Michelle! They're an inspiration for what seems to be true love and mutual respect. How wonderful it seems.

Being Just a Man
She extends her hand. He opens his arms.

"So, what you looking at my woman like that for?"
I suppose it didn't help any that the Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi, was at the G-20 alone, having been recently dumped by his wife after being linked to a string of sexual improprieties with what newspapers called "scarlets and showgirls."
He's out of his league here.

Being Queen Elizabeth II
It now appears that the semi-embrace between Queen Elizabeth and First Lady Michelle Obama was initiated by the Queen according to the Daily Mail Online. Buckingham Palace described the semi-embrace as "a mutual and spontaneous display of affection and appreciation." How sweet!
Long live the Queen and may God bless the First Lady!

The big talk today is that the First Lady broke protocol by touching Queen Elizabeth. I respect protocol and believe as a visitor to the country or home of another that guests should abide by such. But perhaps some things are taken to the extreme and some protocol should be dropped.
Are you really not suppose to touch Queen Elizabeth in these days far removed from cloaks and daggers, especially after having been invited to her home? How utterly ridiculous! Touch is healing. When my mother lay dying I spent hours rubbing her feet and legs which were often numb from diabetes. One day she looked at me and said, "Judith, your hands are healing."

Being First Families III
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama arrived in London today for the G-20 summit. There is a lot of buzz about the First Couple. I thought it odd that President Sarkozy was huffing and puffing and threatening to walk out of the G-20 summit if certain regulation policies are not met. Why announce it? Simply head back to France, though probably not without fanfare. He does appear to be a bit temperamental.
Is there a little competition here with the striking leader of the G-20 from across the pond? I also thought it odd that President Sarkozy's wife, Carla Bruni, who was a hit in Britain last year and noted for her beauty and style but not her compassion, intelligence and down to earth quality (not that she's lacking in these attributes particularly), will not be accompanying her husband. Hmmm? Afraid of being upstaged?
But, oh, we love the French!

Being First Lady Michelle Obama IV
When my father went away to war my mother also struggled. When he returned after the war she said he was never the same.
Americans, we are blessed to have such a First Lady who supports our troops and their families.
May God bless her and hers.

Being First Lady Michelle Obama II
The First Lady visited a social services center in Washington D.C. yesterday, sitting on the floor with a group of kids reading, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear." You can tell by the photos below that she felt the love and so did the kids. I don't ever remember a First Lady that has been so down to earth, yet proud, elegant, statuesque, and intelligent. We're really blessed.

How beautiful are these photos?

Being Alvin Ailey II
President Obama and First Lady Michelle had a "date night" last night at the Kennedy Center where they saw the great Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. "Fix Me" is a universal cry. Enjoy!

Being First Lady Michelle Obama
Our First Lady, Michelle Obama, is a most beautiful woman who loves her husband and daughters and the children of America. After a rather grueling day, how wonderful to whisk the President away for a little bit to participate in giving after many questions regarding Tom Daschale and before a round of interviews with the media. Kids have a way of putting things in perspective and refocusing us; they also have a way of cheering us up.
"Who can find a virtuous wife? For he worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her. So he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life...She considers a field and buys it. From her profits she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength and strengths her arms...Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land...She watches the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness...Her husband praises her 'Many daughters have done well but you excel them all..." (Proverbs 31)
