I'd like to think that there is an apprieciation for classical music in me. I know there was a time growing up I would listen to the classical station here in town... I can't call the letters and I know that I was sad when they went off the air in the not that long ago.

Where am I going with this..? More than simply being a beautiful piece it was quite appropriate for a Sunday morning. Thanks for posting it.

Ah, Mark, the station was WQRS. We grew with that station. When I was 12 I one a big competition that was hosted at the old Steinway mansion across near the DIA and Public Library (both great institutions in the D) I won a major singing competition and it was live on WQRS. It was one of the biggest days of my life up to that point. My father flew from New York to hear me and my mother was so proud. I was not living in Detroit when WQRS went off the air, but I heard about it and was deeply saddened. Now that I live here again, I miss it. Thankfully there is Sirius for those who love and appreciate classical music. But it still may say something about a city and surrounding suburbs that would allow the only classical music station to go off the air through essentially not listening. Exactly what it says I'm not altogether sure. It is probably indicative of many cities in America. We need a good mix of various genres of music and young people should be taught to appreciate this, I think. But sadly music is not taught in schools much anymore.

I had the honor of hearing Sarah Chang in person! She was brilliant, but I must say that no one compares to Josh Bell. If you ever, ever get the opportunity to hear him play in person, do not pass it up!

Thanks for posting this.

Yes, I have heard Josh Bell, Chesapeake. He is cute but he is not a favorite. :-) My all-time favorites are Jascha Heifetz and Yehudi Menuhin. If you listen to Heifetz and Menuhin then listen to Bell play the Bach Chaconne for example, it should be obvious why he is not a favorite. I think that Bell is a fine musician, but I even prefer Chang to him.
