Being Precious
I love the movie, "Precious." I saw it last night and was moved incredibly. It is difficult not to love Precious and to completely empathize with her. The script is fantastic. It is obvious why Geoffrey Fletcher won the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay. (His acceptance speech was beautiful.) Mo'Nique also delivered a powerful believable performance and it is obvious why she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Even though her role was extremely brutal and harsh, there was even a humane tender moment for her character which was brilliantly acted. (Her acceptance speech was not so beautiful.) Gabourey Sidibe was utterly believable as Precious. And, how precious she is in this role. Sidibe was nominated in the Best Actress category. I was so inspired by two interviews that I saw with her that I wrote of her here last year and included the videos. May God bless the precious young women in such a plight all around the world.

Aunt, I am desperately looking for a copy of this movie. The shots looked fantastic and the story is just beautiful! I need to watch this!!!
My talented gifted young nephew, Ajey, it is indeed a beautiful movie. I watched it last night on Pay-Per-View. It would have been great to see it on the Big Screen. I imagine that since it won a few Oscars that it may be re-released. Perhaps it remains in some theaters too. I think you will appreciate the storyline, music, cinematography, and performances. The colors and music are so 80's.
I have not seen Precious but I will definitely see it now. I was concerned about the ending being tragic, but a friend told me it wasn't too pessimistic. I'm so happy the movie received some oscars.
Katina - There are quite a few very sad home scenes but the ending is quite hopeful. I did not find it too pessimistic. I think you'll like it.
Hi Judith!
My daughter kept wanting to go see this movie with me when it first came out and I kept stalling because I thought it would be so tragic that I wouldn't enjoy it (not as in being entertained, but you know what I mean). Tell me that despite the darkness that pervaded her life that there is some light in this movie. Eventually I will see it.
Glad that Geoffrey Fletcher won and so did Mo'nique. Her performance from the clips I've seen are nothing short of powerful.
Hope you are doing well friend,
Rebecca
Oh, Rebecca, there is definitely light in this movie. But there are also some heartbreaking scenes. I think this is the reason that I too did not go to see it when it came out. I thought it would be so very sad. You will fall in love with Precious and find the movie powerful, I think. I am indeed well, my friend. I hope the same for you. Will pop over to your blog soon.
I have not seen this movie yet, I'm bracing myself to do so. I believe it is one of those most see films. I feel compelled to watch it.
Pam - It will leave an indelible impression, I think. Drop me an email when you have done so. I'd like to get your take.
