Being Juan Ramon Jiminez

I Took Off Petal After Petal

I took off petal after petal, as if you were a rose,
in order to see your soul,
and I didn’t see it.

However, everything around-
horizons of fields and oceans-
everything, even what was infinite,
was filled with a perfume,
immense and living.

(Translation by Robert Bly)

Entrancing. I can't stop reading this poem and having a sensation, which eludes description, warm over me.

Beautiful without being overly so and profound without being excessively simple or blunt. I know what it means to me and it is one of the rare works that if someone else could see or feel something similiar hidden in these words... we'd have a nice cup of coffee in the Astoria Bakery!!

Ah, yes, Astoria Bakery! Greek Town or Royal Oak. :-) Happy you enjoy the poem. It's a beauty that eludes images and embraces infinitude.

Gorgeous poem that breathes anew with each reading. Thank you Judith for sharing these words of beauty with us.

Hope all is well with you my friend. My husband lost his job on Monday, so we're job hunting again. The good news is that we have a job hunt plan in place. We're taking an aggressive, proactive approach. As I know you will my dear friend, please remember my family in your prayers. Thanks for being a great friend :) Hugs!

Kelly - I just passed through your blog. I felt so bad that I had not come through earlier and that I have been out of touch. I'm so sorry to hear that your husband lost his job. I have already said and prayer. you will be in my prayer and thoughts until your situation turns around again. Please let me know how I can help. I send you peace and love, my friend.
