"Love is the condition in which the happiness
of another person is essential to your own."

--Robert Heinlein

So true. A gesture, a look, a kind word...

Ah, yes, the simple things that mean so much. I try daily to be conscious of these. Sometimes I fail miserably; many times I am most successful. Thanks for the reminder, Kelly.

Contentment must fit in this equation. Nice quote!

I love that quote. Happiness exists to those that think of it in its simplest form of living where contentment is at rest.

Very nice, Bonnie. What wonderful words you have written here. Thank you.

Love the quote - got to say though, in its true form, one never remembers that it affects their own happiness - its done selflessly.

Hey Meena - How are you? Good to see you. Hope all is well. You address the issue of motive in your comment. I have come to know that even if we don't always begin with the right motive if we practice giving even when we are afraid or protective it becomes second nature and often times lines up with our better self. We are all becoming more of what we will yet be.

Hmmm...hadn't thought of it that way. But, that approach totally reminds me of arranged marriages (prevalent in my heritage) - the couple eventually begins to love because they do things to make each other happy and facilitate the other persons ease?

Meena - I think the mind is incredibly interesting in that our thoughts largely evolve from our own experiences. I must say, however, that not all things are applicable to all situations. From what I gather in Middle Eastern cultures a young girl of 10 or younger can be in such an arrangement. Perhaps this is not largely practiced. Personally, probably due to my background, I could not conceive of such at any age. Although, in some situations I surely wished I had the option with some friends and family members--just kidding, well partially. Oh, well. :-)

haha.
I wasn't referring to the odd practices of 10 yr olds - I was referring to the practice in other regions with ppl in their 20s/30s usually.

I assumed as much Meena. :-) It really is good to have you here again, friend.
