Being Inspired by Others

i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem, Judith. I was not familiar with this one. I like "higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide".

Kelly - It is really my pleasure. e.e. cummings is one of my all-time favorite poets and this poem in particular is one of my all-time favorite poems. What a powerful universal earthly celestial love, eh? The immediacy is palapable.

If I must choose a line, which is so very hard to do as it is so complete, it would be the whole of the portion you quoted:

"here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind cand hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart."

Love matters.

Judith I had the pleasure and duty of reciting this poem as part of the wedding ceremony of two dear actor friends of mine.

How nice is that, DB. I'm not sure if I'll ever marry. But if I were to marry I would want this poem read at my wedding. I'm sure you did a fine reading.
