I love Dolly. You've gone and made me cry so early this hot summer morning! My Father died when I was five years old but I was blessed to have a fabulous Uncle who helped raise us and he was as precious as Ms. Parton's father. Great post!

Marion - Dolly Parton is one of my all-time favorites. I love her honesty in presentation and the sheer sound of her voice, not to mention her effortless vocal technique. She's a natural. Did I mention that she's a businesswoman like not many others? Love her!

My father was also not around most of my life, but I too had uncles and older brothers who were, without doubt, positive influences in my life. My mother too played the role of both mother and father to her twelve kids WHILE honoring our father in his presence and absence. This was important.

I once asked her how she was able to do what she did. She said that she love him and loved her children more than self-pity. There was no room for revenge and unforgiveness as she saw it. She our father in spite of shortcomings and failures (He had many redeeming qualities too.) Her example blessed each of us, especially her sons. The sons she raised are excellent fathers.

Dolly made me cry too. Very beautiful. I miss my Dad today. Thank you for sharing about your mom. She is truly amazing. God bless her for all that she did to raise such wonderful children.

septembermom - I think I remember reading about your dad in one of your posts; he seemed like a wonderful father.

Thank you for mentioning my mother and her children. There is no doubt in reading your blog that you too have had such guidance.

I love the way you love on your little ones and the honesty with which you share your experiences. Thanks you. You are blessed, my dear friend.

Peace and love to you.

Judith, I'm a DP fan too. I love her sweetness AND toughness. Seems like a great model for women in business.

Don't know if I ever mentioned that I met my daughter for the first time 2 years ago in California. I discovered she was my daughter over 30 years ago but had to wait until she felt ready to contact me. Now we're friends and getting to know each other. I think I'm ALMOST mature enough for fatherhood.

Yes, John, you did mention that you had a daughter and told me the story which I loved. I'm soooo very happy for you AND her.

Life sometimes does not turn out the way we thought that it might or should, but the beauty is to take it one day at a time. All the very best, John! You are the best! And you will be great father at this stage of your daughter's life. Of this I am most confident. :-)

YES! Dolly Parton is a great role model for women in business everywhere. I have written of her here before.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY JOHN!
