Being Un-American

During a speech in Hong Kong to Asian investors Sarah Palin criticized America. Isn't it a joke that this woman is even in Hong Kong addressing investors having quit being mayor, quit being governor and she would have probably quit being the vice president if elected? This woman has run nothing successfully not even a government, let alone a business.

According to the Washington Post, this is what Sarah Palin said:

1. "We got into this mess because of government interference in the first place. We're not interested in government fixes, we're interested in freedom."

2. "Liberalism holds that there is no human problem that government can't fix if only the right people are put in charge."

3. Concerning health care she repeated her "death panels" lie and said "it's just common sense that government attempts to solve problems like health care problem will just create new problems."

4. Without calling President Obama by name she spoke was obvious speaking of hime when referring to "nebulous, utopian sounding...Now 10 months later, though, a lot of Americans are asking: more government? Is that the change we want?"

I thought the Japanese preferred blondes? I guess not. Why else would they choose such a woman to speak to them? As I have said here before, Sarah Palin is a joke. If you don't take my word for it, take the conservative columinist Liz Trotta's words:

This woman is inarticulate, undereducated...A lot of this criticism is well-deserved...This is a woman who has used her good looks and gender to really get ahead in the political world.
Yes, Palin continues to increase her bank account and draw attention to herself, but more importantly she continues to disgrace women everywhere by her sheer stupidity and ignorance. How embarrassing she is.

While Palin didn't call President Obama by name, it is obvious that she criticized the president abroad in a socialist country, nonetheless, when she critized government intervention. How incredibly ironic and utterly foolish. Palin did not talk about the lack of regulation and the greed of Wall Street. The American government she spouted is the problem.

The Dixie Chicks were vehemently criticized as being "un-American" by conservatives and the religious right for opposing the 2003 Iraq war for saying, "We don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas," their home state. They were eviscerated.

Now, let's see what kind of repercussions Sarah Palin will receive from her statements abroad by those same voices. Do you think conservatives and the religious right will call her un-American? After all, which would have a greater impact on geo-politics, the girl band or the once vice-presidential candidate?

Well, that's a tough one, eh? But I gonna go with the former.

I totally agree with the true fact that these bailouts did nothing good for anyone. They just helped the rich get their “Bonuses” and in stack of million dollars at a time. That’s where the money went. It didn’t help the “little people” the citizens of the US keep afloat.

She should shut her mouth already and just get on In life...

Susan - It is very difficult to really know that isn't it. We allowed Lehamann to fail and look what happened.

The real danger is that we have allowed these banks to get even bigger as they gobbled up smaller banks with the bailouts without implementing regulations that President Clinton did away with that allowed companies like AIG to essentially become a hedge fund.

The bonuses, while important as millions went out to so called talent, are not the most essential part. It's a matter of MILLIONS as opposed to HUNDREDS of BILLIONS. What is more important is this globalized banking system that enabled taxpayer money to be funneled out to European banks on 100% on the dollar which would have been a fat 0% on the dollar if the bailout would have never occurred. By the way, I am for community banking and believe that globalization, not trade, as we have come to know it is a BIG FARCE!

The problem is that you could not get Sarah Palin to even understand the "true fact" of any of this because she is wholly inept. This woman has crammed as Blitzer suggested and could not think her way out of a simple maze. This is a sad fact but it's a "true fact." It's quite amazing that you were able to get anything out of that rambling. :-)

Do pass through again, Susan. May God bless the "little people" and may we as a government, the people--that is, thoughtfully move forward a real representative democracy by first getting big business out of Washington. Lobbyists control domestic and foreign policy. This has to end.

Chris - I'm with you 100%.

Yes, we understand the banks still gave out bonuses and took trips; however, they had stop loaning out money. This bottle necked the economy. Really they had us by the you know whats!

Now, it is interesting to me how Palin is still in the spot light at all. Yes, she is undereducated and basically a pin up doll for the Republican party. I do think for all of the women who went before her and fought in the political arena to be taken seriously she is a disgrace to their hard efforts. I have not heard of too much she has done to better her state, our government, her party or women.

Some may argue she gave a boost to McCain's dying campaign. Well maybe so in the beginning until she opened her mouth and told us she could see Russia from her house.

We are in critical times and at a pivotal time in our lives. It is time now if ever to act to respond to grab hold of our lives and our country.

Her speech I'm sure was an attempt to discredit the President on a global scale in which he is still very popular.

But we of course can see through that.

You are wrong, Miss Ellis.
Prior to her political career, Mrs. Palin did run a business. She was successful as the governor of Alaska and quite the popular and populist candidate during the election. She has the right- as I would imagine any American does- to criticise her government, especially one whose only game plan appears to be showing up for press interviews and late-night talk shows. She gets her points (which are quite valid, I might add) across without any grand-standing or plagarised words.
We must also remember that Obama did not hang up the American flag in his election offices but the Cuban one. His wife- ever the fashion plate- declared she was at last proud of her country. Why not be proud before? Did we also forget Reverend Wright? How is Mrs. Palin's alleged anti-American sentiment traitorous but not the Obamas'?
Furthermore, do not confuse the culturally and linguistically diverse Japanese and Chinese. Some consider that offensive.

Pam - I agree with you about lending. This is why I am for community banking and against globalization as we have come to know it.

Osuhmashi - We are all entitled to our opinions and I respect that you have yours. But I, as well as 75% of Americans, agree with Liz Trotta: "This woman is inarticulate, undereducated...A lot of this criticism is well-deserved...This is a woman who has used her good looks and gender to really get ahead in the political world."

With regards to the claim of being un-American, I do not criticize Palin for her speech—although I would not have done so even with the policies of some of President Bush’s policies that I did not agree with. She is totally inept to deliver any such speech anywhere. The criticism, as I wrote in the post, is lodged at the conservatives and religious right who eviscerated a girl band for making a relatively mild statement about the then current president.

Sarah Palin is a joke. She quit being mayor, she quit being governor and she would have undoubtedly quit being vice-president. The reality is this woman is a complete embarrassment. Your comments here about President Obama and First Lady Michelle are not even comparable. They do not, in my opinion, deserve real analysis.

Oh, by the way, are you speaking of her the fishing business of her husband’s family? It has been said that Palin never ever went out to gather a single net? Not personally knowing Palin, I cannot say that she ever went out and fished or not. But as a serial entrepreneur I can say that this woman seems to have no ability whatsoever from for business in the very least.

Business is about leadership and decision-making. It's not about sound bites and side shows. It's about hard work. Sarah Palin is a quitter. Through her words and actions during the campaign, this woman was dense and dubious. Palin, bless her heart, seems like the stereotypical brainless beauty queen. She is an attractive woman though. I will give her that.

She was paid 6 figures to make that speech.

And Osumashi, as far as Rev Wright is concerned, how about the group that Todd Palin belonged to that pushed for the succession of Alaska from the United States? Where does that fall on the patriotism scale?

I'm not sure what you are getting at with the reference to plagarism, but as far as that goes, I doubt anyone will ever plagarize anything Sarah Palin says - other than to get a laugh.

Judith Ellis said...

Zorro - I have no problem with Sarah Palin making a living as anything but a representative of America nationally or internationally considering her track record and current complete ineptitude.

Isn't it funny what money will do? It looks like Donald Trump will not receive probably six figures for allowing Qaddafi to pitch a tent on his property in the manner he is accustomed to. But what I don't understand is why can't a leader who is allowed to speak at the UN not find a place to lay his head?

Charge Qadaffi with war crimes, terrorism or whatever and do not allow him a platform at the United Nations OR allow him a place to lay his head. But don't do both. Do either or.

zorro said...

I don't the big problem with letting Qaddafi pitch his tent. Who funds Qaddafi? We do - by buying oil. How many SUV are there
tooling around in Westchester County?
Why is it OK to buy oil from people who have killed Americans, but its against the law to buy something a simple as cigars from Cuba. When was the last time Castro killed Americans?

Judith Ellis said...

Smart thoughts, Zorro.

It was indeed interesting that after the release of the Locerbie bomber there appeared to have been some sort of agreement between the governments of Libya and England which Qaddafi's son said had all to do with oil. England denies this, but it sounds highly plausible to many.
