Live your life! Listen not to the haters!

Jill Scott is awesome! What a voice! What spirit! I'm now watching her new series, No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency on HBO. She is such a natural. I hope the show succeeds.

Judith,

I ditched HBO because, other than boxing, didn't see the value. I will just have to arrive un-announced at one of my kid's houses and commandeer their television set and check it out!

If the attitude and personna from the video show in her performance, she will be great indeed.

I know what you mean about HBO. It is the only "premium" channel that I have. Actually, it was one of those one year promotions that ended a few months back. I was just assessing the value of it. Perhaps it has value now that Scott has her new series. :-)

Speaking of boxing, I'm a GREAT lover of sports, but not boxing. Now, Ali was beautiful and I can watch his matches, probably because I so love the guy. A few years back I went to a match and just HATED it! We had ringside seats and I looked away more than I looked on. In fact, I did not make it to the end of the match.

Something about being punched in the face hurts, even when you're not the punching bag.

Judith,

I had a friend who boxed professionally for a short time and I occasionally would spar with him. Even with all the gear on that stuff hurts. He used to tell me it's all mental...if you think it's gonna hurt, it is! Nothing like taking a good body shot to let you be affirmed in your knowledge "THAT STUFF HURTS"! Whether you are thinking about it or not!

My favorite boxer of all time was the Motor City's own Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns. The Motor City Cobra. Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Alex Arguello, Marvin Hagler...a great era for boxing when those guys fought.

Gotta LOVE Detroit's Tommy the Hit-Man Hearns. He and Eminem were in the group with myself and friend the night that I mentioned.

Hearns' son was boxing that night. The opponent threw the match minutes into the first round. This caused a major ruckus! Hearns and son were livid. I wasn't! :-) But others followed.

My favorite boxers for many reasons, which perhaps have little to do with boxing itself but maybe everything to do with it, is Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson and Leonard, and Jack Johnson. I have read more about these guys than actually haven seen them fight.

I still am no huge fan! It hurts!

Judith,

Tommy Hearns and Slim Shady? Now that is terrific. The original Sugar Ray...my grandfather loved him to death and I heard stories for hours about his fights. Shoot...if boxing is bad, check out some of the mixed martial arts! You could not print enough money to make me do that!

I want to see the show...I have to check it out when it comes on.

It was a good night, except for the fighting. :-) Mixed maritial arts? Probably not! Regarding the first Sugar Ray and many others, it's great reading their various stories.

Do check it out, Write Girl. I think you'll like it.
