Being for Clean Air

Who wouldn't be for clean air? I am for clean air and there seems to be irrefutable that greenhouses gasses and carbon emissions can be dangerous to the environment. But when we have large companies like Exxon Mobil and General Electric are behind certain tax and trade policies, I really wonder. After all, they have been large contributors to this mess. They have benefited with billions in profits. Now, it appears that small companies and the American public will be paying for their mess.

Not being a scientist, I also wonder about the whole carbon debate. Don't we as humans emit carbon? Like I said, I'm no scientist. But anytime CEO's like Rex Tillerson of Exxon Mobil and Jeffrey Immelt of General Electric are for policies and programs that should cut into their multiple billions of profits, at least for short-term while innovation occurs and for Exxon Mobil I'm not sure if some loss would be indefinite, I can't help but to wonder. These are simple thoughts that make me wonder. How about you?

I was recently watching a show on the Food Network about exotic food practices of an indigenous tribe. I was struck by the purity of life experience in that culture. A world free of contaminants, noise, clutter and civil unrest. Your post of today made me think of what it must feel like to grow and breathe in a land without man's alteration of the environment. Stripped of all our so called comforts and advancements, you should see the smiles of contentment and peace on their faces. Judith, once again, I appreciate how your posts trigger my thoughts in new directions.

Yes, septembermom, what an extraordinary existence that must be! In fact, I lived among indigenour tribes in the Australian Outback for nine months and it was an extraordinary experience. Implied in your comment is our notion of progress, the ever faster better more "prosperous" way of living.

Money can't buy everything, like good health and peace of mind, and it most certainly is no comfort we the time comes for our transference out of bodily mass. What concerns me of lately more than usual is our total dependence on what we deem as economic prosperity, the never enough attainment of it.

If our environment is destroyed it is because of our insatiable desire for money, which enables power. While I'm a big supporter of business, I am more in support of ethics and common sense. But they need not be separate.

Big business does a lot of good with their charities and foundations, but they can be more responsible on many levels i.e., not creating the problem and then assauging their guilt by giving. (By the way, I mean not to imply that all do this.)

And, septembermom, I am glad to say anything at all that triggers thought in another direction. This is why I both read and write. Thank you for your encouragement.

dyanna - Welcome! I am happy you are here. I shall now check out your blog.

Ah, dyanna, I do not speak your native language. Perhaps there's a translation program in order to read your blog? There appears to be a link which seems to not be working. I like your heading which speaks of "A Single Season," the name of your blog, in English. I also like the natural settings of your photos--no words needed there. :-)

Hey Judith,

I hope that regular tax payers do not have to pay the bill on this one. I did hear something about a carbon emission tax. I'm guessing this is for corporations. I just hope we do what is environmentally right.

Yes, The Write Girl. That is my hope too!
