Being Queen Elizabeth II

It now appears that the semi-embrace between Queen Elizabeth and First Lady Michelle Obama was initiated by the Queen according to the Daily Mail Online. Buckingham Palace described the semi-embrace as "a mutual and spontaneous display of affection and appreciation." How sweet!

Long live the Queen and may God bless the First Lady!

Hi Judith,

I actually liked that semi-embrace. It's interesting that in the 21st century you cannot touch the Queen, even the person who did it is the first lady of the president of the US.

This always brings me the thoughts that we could accept the change that occurs in life, modernization, technology, medicine, etc...but the protocols would never change like many other traditional (sometimes useless) habits of humanity.

just a thought. Thanks.

Hi Khaled - Yes, protocol is often a serious thing and I'm not for t breaking or disregarding all protocol and traditions. Many I appreciate. I also like that you have broadened the discussion to modernization, technology, etc. Often times those steeped in tradition are averse to change of all kind, though sometimes not. Thanks for your comment.

Nice, indeed. I have seen the video with the Queen and the First Lady a few times and it is obvious that the Queen reached out to touch the First Lady first. It would not matter much anyway, as the embrace seemed very much mutual. This was noted by Buckingham Palace.
