Being a Governing Body
What is the similarity between government and corporation? They are both governing corporate bodies. One looks after the welfare of its people through legislation; the other does the same for shareholders through by-laws. We elect government officials to govern, as board members are elected to do the same. We are all a part of a governing corporate body. The people and shareholders must hold government officials and board members responsible.

Judith,
You are absolutely correct on the need for accountability. In this day and age it is no longer a choice but responsibility. If the current financial crisis should show us anything it's that if not us, then who?
Dave - Was accountability ever a choice? Not in my house! I agree with your assessment of the time and us. The time is also showing us...us. Let's see if the mirror will make a difference. Many times we simply look away.
Judith,
One of the simpliest yet meaningful leadership lessons I ever learned was that accountability need not be punitive. It was simply a tool to identify opportunites to work smarter, more productively and more efficiently. People on the frontline (work or community) how much to offer when it comes to solutions. Collaboration can be a marvelous thing.
I agree, Dave. Thank you.
